We have so many mediums for entertainment these days. We can watch our favorite series or show on Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Disney+Hotstar, etc. But the question is what our parents and grandparents used to watch apart from films every month for their entertainment. When I asked them this question to my father he said that they used to watch TV serials onDoordarshan . The time was fixed from 9 pm to 10 pm. He further added TV serials were good these days. They are so absurd now. Well, I kind of agree with him. Nowadays nobody, especially Gen Z, doesn’t watch TV Serials because they are absurd and unrealistic. They repeat the same concept in many serials. Okay now I’m not bashing or spreading any hate in fact there are some serials that are based on a good concept and are liked by the audience too. Also, they give chance to an outsider to showcase their talent and make it easy for them to enter Bollywood. For example, Sushant Singh Rajput used to star in Pavitra Rishta and got popular because of that show. His character Manav is still remembered by many of us. And no one can deny that Mouni Roy got recognition from TV serials. She has worked in that industry for fifteen years and is famously known for her role Naagin in Naagin . And recently she was in Brahmastra- Part 1 (Shiva), a blockbuster, and everyone appreciated Mouni Roy’s acting. She played the role of an antagonist in that film. But some Hindi TV Serials are so bizzare. Saath Nibhana Saathiya would be the first on this list. That show ran for almost 7 years on Star plus. There was a scene in that serial where Gopi Bahu the main character of that show washes the laptop with the clothes. Not just that there was a TV series Pinjira Khubsurti Ka on Colors. It glorified toxic relationships or the right word to be used here is domestic abuse. Mayura the female lead of that show is forcefully married to the male lead Omkar and is tortured by him and later fells in love with him. It was released in 2020 and aired till 2021. Not many people watched that show. Many people think that Pakistani, Turkish and Korean dramas are much better than Indian TV Serials. They repeat their outfits and wear normal clothes and don’t wear heavy jewelry or wear makeup before going to bed in their dramas. The most important and likable fact is that they end after 25 to 30 episodes. This the current situation of the TV Serial industry but there was a time when people really liked watching it and respected all the actors. They still do but that was the golden period of the TV industry. Here’s a list of serials before the “saas–bahu” drama.
