Welcome to Stars and Stripes, your one-stop blog for everything football. In this blog, I update you on what has happened during the week in football and also give my opinion on one particular football-related topic every week. Let’s Football!!

This week’s theme is Women’s Football.

Let’s start with Football this week, the Euro qualifiers ended this week with most of the big nations performing as expected. Manchester City won 4-1 against Liverpool with an impressive performance from Jack Grealish. Talking about Manchester City, Haaland signed another long-term Nike Deal. Nike now has both of the next big superstars in football by signing Haaland and Mbappe. It'll be interesting to see how Adidas competes with Nike now. A class act from Poland Men’s Team after they wore the name of their female counterpart players from the women’s team during training.

Like any other sport, the women’s side of football has grown tremendously in the past few years. FIFA has termed it the single biggest growth opportunity in football today which sounds befitting. Significant instances in the past few years have changed the scenario of women’s football like the introduction of the Women’s Champions League, Women’s Euro and the Women’s World Cup. The introduction of grass-roots initiative started by FIFA has been a major factor in the rise of women’s football. FC Barcelona Femeni (FCBFemeni) is one team which comes to mind when you talk about the same. They’ve helped the sport a lot commercially. The scale of the growth can be seen by the average attendance the team has seen. The match between FC Barcelona and Wolfsburg witnessed the higher ever attendance in a women’s football match of 92,000. The overall attendance during women’s football matches has also seen a 33% rise, according to FIFA. The Wales Women’s Football Association made another positive stride for the sport when they introduced equal pay for their men’s and women’s teams earlier this year. Some prominent faces such as Alexia Putellas and Sam Kerr have garnered huge social media followings and are becoming household names in Europe. India also had an increase in viewership after it hosted The AFC women’s Asia Cup and the U17 women’s World Cup in 2022. The Upcoming FIFA Women’s World Cup can prove to be a game-changer for the sport. It has already garnered popular sponsorships and will aim to garner more and more eyeballs once it kicks off. It is just a matter of time before women’s football will be as popular as men’s game or even more popular. The side is definitely destined for a lot of great achievements to come on the path they are on right now. That is all for this week, I’ll meet you next week with the weekly roundup and a new topic. Bye!
