Happiness is a state of mind what we truly strive for but what exactly makes us happy? The science of happiness has been studied extensively and there are many more factors that contribute to our overall well being.
The most significant factor that contributes to our happiness is our relationship with others. Positive social connections including close friendships and strong family relationships are necessary for our well-being. Studies have shown that people who have strong social connections are generally happier, healthier, and live longer than who don't.
Researches have also shown that gratitude plays a significant role in happiness. When we focus on what we are thankful for in our lives, we are more likely to experience positive emotions and feel happier overall. Practicing gratitude regularly can improve our mood and increase our overall well being. One study found that people who wrote down things they were grateful for once a week for ten weeks were more optimistic than those who didn't.
Finally physical exercise also plays a significant role in our happiness. Regular exercise, a healthy diet and getting enough sleep are all essential for our well being. When we feel physically healthy we are more likely to feel happy and have a positive outlook on life. One study found that people who exercised regularly had higher levels of life satisfaction than those who didn't.
