You're so Golden

it’s 4:43pm, the sunlight is touching my eyes in a way that the dark brown becomes hazel. i know that because, for some reason, you won’t shut up about it.

your hair looks golden, like it’s made of the kind of fabric people make those fancy pillows with. i know that because you’re sitting right in front of the window and i can barely see your face as the rays hit your back.

you’re glowing in a way that only i can see.

i’m glistening in a way that only you can see.

you’re telling me about the last show you watched and the last song you heard and the last time you heard your dog bark today, as you were stepping out of your house to get here. you switch between topics so quickly i can hardly keep track but you know i’m always listening.

i can’t see your eyes but i know they’re shining. your hands move through the air, your fingers dancing as you weave a tale right in front of my eyes.

by the huskiness of your voice, i can tell you’re talking about the way you felt when your mother patted your head this morning right after you woke up. it made you feel important. i know that because you have goosebumps on your arms and you’re running your hands through your hair because you cannot put into words how overwhelmed you are.

i tell you something about how you deserve to feel important and you snort like i’ve cracked the unfunniest joke in the world. but you know i mean it. you know it because my hands are no longer resting on my lap but ripping through the air like i’m somehow trying to throw this realisation onto you.

and love. oh, love

the thing is, i don’t know the point in this conversation in which i turned into a puddle resting at your feet but right now it’s 4:51pm and i’m looking up at you like you put the stars in the sky and the air into my lungs and i’m nothing but liquid around the soles of your feet. a single move of your little toe would ripple through me and i’d become anew. i know that because i’m looking up at you right now.

you know that because you’re looking at me right now.
