Times School of Media on Monday hosted Petr Sizon, Counsellor and Spokesperson at the Russian Embassy and Alena Danilova, First Secretary at the Embassy, to conduct a masterclass on the topic- ‘Global Media & the Politics of Information: A Russian Perspective’.

“We are the Russian diplomats co-working in the first years for digital diplomacy, which now becomes almost the only way to convey an alternative point of view before an auditorium when the normal communication channels are blocked”, said Sizon during his address.

Other than discussing the need for digital diplomacy in contemporary times, the speakers also delved deep into addressing how the politics of information, often led by Western countries, has affected the global perception about Russia negatively. Sizon and Danilova highlighted how various long-held assumptions about the Russian media, press freedom and democracy were created and spread globally by biased media channels, to suit Western narratives.
Giving an example of the hypocrisy shown by the West, Sizon stated that RT News- Russia’s own English-language broadcasting channel is banned in many American-aligned countries, which emphasises the need for press freedom.
