Bennett University, under the Times Group, in collaboration with the Uttar Pradesh government, organised UPRISE on October 11 to encourage entrepreneurship among students and provide a platform for young innovators to present their startup ideas. Organised by the Bennett Hatchery and the university’s Entrepreneurship Cell (E-Cell), the event aimed to strengthen the startup culture on campus and connect aspiring entrepreneurs with opportunities for financial support.

The programme commenced with a lamp-lighting ceremony attended by government
representatives, entrepreneurs and Bennett University Vice-Chancellor Dr Raj Singh. The distinguished guests included Mr Sunil Kumar, Assistant Director at the Board of Apprenticeship Training under the Ministry of Education, Government of India, alongside entrepreneurs Ms Soumya Singh and Mr Gaurav Ghai.

Addressing the gathering, Mr Kumar highlighted the importance of apprenticeships in shaping students’ professional journeys. He also encouraged students to recognise the value of practical experience and skill development in building their careers. Additionally, His address emphasised the importance of initiatives such as UPRISE in encouraging students to explore entrepreneurship and develop ideas
that could create meaningful opportunities.

Enriching the discussions with practical perspective, Ms. Soumya Singh and Mr. Gaurav Ghai shared insights from their entrepreneurial journeys. Their experiences introduced students to the challenges of building a venture, the importance of perseverance and the need to approach business ideas with a clear vision. Their interactions also encouraged aspiring founders to look beyond conventional
career paths and consider entrepreneurship as a viable option.

One of the major highlights of the event was the startup pitching session, where students associated with the Bennett Hatchery presented their ideas before a jury. The participants explained their concepts and outlined the potential of their ventures, while the jury assessed their presentations and offered feedback to help them refine their business ideas. The opportunity for financial assistance added significance to the pitching session. The Uttar Pradesh government offered monetary support of approximately ₹10 lakh for start-ups, providing an incentive for aspiring entrepreneurs seeking to develop their ideas into viable businesses. The initiative reflected the importance of connecting student innovation with financial resources and guidance that can help young ventures take their next steps.

The session also gave participants an opportunity to engage with experienced professionals, understand the expectations of a startup evaluation process and identify areas for improvement. For students at the early stages of their entrepreneurial journeys, such interactions can help bridge the gap between an initial idea and a more structured business plan.

The programme concluded with the felicitation of the guests by Vice-Chancellor Dr Raj Singh, followed by his vote of thanks. UPRISE brought students, entrepreneurs and government representatives together around a shared objective: encouraging innovation and supporting the next generation of entrepreneurs.
